This would be better if it was shot with more light to reduce the size of the pupil and make the iris larger (eg more brown, less black). Also, when you submit, try to make sure at least one of the image dimensions is the maximum allowed (640 pixels) - the larger the image the more impact it'll have.

the small cropping will always give you low points. Make it as big as possible.

Another pictures of someone's dog. Doesn't do it for me. I scored most of the pet pictures pretty low except for two which were amazing.

It's also small. Better luck next time.
