I need a real studio because trying to light this project was a nightmare. That glass catches light from everywhere. If this were an Advanced Editing challenge I could have cloned out some reflections but no, I had to really do it with lights. Good learning experience though. Of course once I got the shot I was after, I got to drink my scotch. Life is good.

I am very disappointed in peoples reaction to this photo. If I was trying to sell Glenlivet I would have lighted it so. But I was trying to push the idea of "The finer things in life". Apparently some people got it but everyone else bitched about it being too dark. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DARK. It was an artful choice. I admit, I do wish the scotch in the glass was brighter and more golden. But it was well lit and sharp, and I think it was great. It did not deserve to have 10% of the votes be 3 or lower.

I am a fan but this is dark, cannot see the amber goodness!

More highlights on the glass might be a good idea.

Don't really like the disappearing glass and bottle.

The glass seems a little too dark but other than that the lighting is great

Nice focus. I like the way the items fade into the background

This is a bit dark, and the glass is a bit obscure.

Product shots are 99% lighting in my opinion - and this image suffers from a lack thereof.

Cliche` subject, poor lighting, bad angles. Keep trying.

I love single malt scotch. Yes, it is one of the finer things in life.

A uisce beatha, the water of life. Nothing says 'life' to me more than a good whisky and Glenlivet is my favourite (though the 18 year old)

Has to be high marks! I think I'd like this better with more back light coming through the sample poured in the glass though, to show the warmth of the contents.

Though it adds to the mood of the photo, i think this one could stand to be a little lighter. At least enough to see the shape of the glass. I like it despite this though.

I really love the concept of the shot (and it happenes to be my favorite Scotch) but, unfortunately the glass can barely be seen and the scotch is nearly completely unvisible. With a tweak to bring those 2 items into play, it would ba a really beautiful shot.

Far too dark IMO - you can hardly telt the bottle from the background.

I would have rated this higher if the glass were lit up a bit more.
