bit too much of a baby-faced Bond...the original Ian Fleming Bond was basically a soccer hooligan in a tux |

James Bond would never let his shirt collar be askew like that. SInce this is a Bond Challenge that matters, in a generic portrait it might not. |

Okay I think the shot you are referencing has a wider angle lens then the 50 mm lens you used. I would try the same shot with your 28-75 and shoot at 28 mm to help give you some more perspective. Even with that lens you would be shooting at 2.8 instead of 1.8 wided open and would help with the abrupt blur that others have mentioned. To me it looks like the movie shot had two main lights, maybe three. One above his head to the right, one above the gun to cast the shadow(this maybe be the same light) and another behind hitting his head and one on the wall. The one behind his head I think would have helped seperate you from your background. So maybe bounce one light off the ceiling which would have put some light on the wall. If you really had time make a reflector out of aluminum foil and somehow position itto be aimed at you and shoot the lash at that so the light isn't quite as direct, maybe too much work :). and another just off camera on the right to add accents to your hair and jacket. Maybe find a a gray wall, to not give such a studio look? Hope this helps a bit. |

in the shot that inspired you, the blur emphasizes the perspective, which emphasizes how close the gun is to the viewer, which adds drama. Your blurred portion seems equally blurred, which actually has a flattening effect. plus your gun's not long enough to show perspective lines. Size does matter sometimes. As to my score, I give inventiveness a premium, so a man holding a gun in a Bond challenge is going to have to work hard to get a good score from me. I don't think any of them got over a 6. I gave you a 5 because of the problems above. I also don't like blank backgrounds. |

Like what Bec said the shot is good and the blur isn't quite right. I see what you were getting at with the still from the movie but it's hard to get a good OOF when you have high contrast and the gun with the white background has too much contrast so the blur still has edges to it. In the movie still you linked to the blur of the gun blends in more with the background because it's similar in color which makes it not hard on the eyes. Another thing holding this back (which isn't your fault) is you have a look that doesn't project James Bond. When I saw this shot the first thing that popped into my head was the movie Reservoir Dogs. Maybe a better background would have helped change that perception.

I think the lighting is good....My first initial thought is that the gun and the hands need to be a more in focus.. Im not sure what else to really say...Its not a bad photo at all..Keep it up! |

GREAT lighting. Great facial expression, great composition, great exposure and focus and DOF. I'd like to give you advice on it, but this time all I can say is WOW: keep up the amazing work! I love it!! |

I would have really liked to see the gun in focus. But otherwise great shot. |

A few things detract. 1)pretty common motive 2)the DOF's too shallow; I feel like the gun really needs to be in focus 3) The subject doesn't really look like Daniel Craig, yet it's titled Casino Royale. 3 |

Great shot (excuse the pun). Would have loved it more had the pistol been in focus too though... |
