Thanks everybody for the kind comments. This was such fun to create. It took me hours I think. I tried to recreate the original picture of the Moon Landing by using a powdery substance and a similar angle of lighting from the sun. To be perfectly honest I was amazed at how close the picture looked when I first desaturated my picture.

I bought some wholemeal flour, I thought it would be perfect as moon powder whilst maintaining some sort of graining. Next I had to make the footprint and at first I thought of using my girlfriends apres-ski boots, but decided that the footprint would look too disimilar to Armstrong's. :-) Therefore I had to make one myself. Bought some plasticine and started creating the "boot". I was amazed at how difficult plasticine is to work with (very sticky) - well the last time I used it was probably in the 1970s anyway. :-)

Setup the flour on a slightly tilted carton, using a large spoon to distribute it evenly and create some bumps on the surface. Then pressed the boot against it. Lighting was done using a handheld sinlge LED and tried to get the shadows very close to the original picture (there was a longer shadow at the back and the front of the picture). I wanted to immediatelly remind the viewer of the original and judging from your comments I think I succeeded.

I took about 40-50 pictures, using different angles and tried to do the footprint twice more. The chosen picture was from the first "take".

I love the idea. Footprints are hard to photograph correctly. I'm guessing you were trying to replicate the actual photo and probably did a great job of it. For a photo challenge, you run into a problem, since the original photo was not that successful as an image, just as a recording of history. I think you would have to go beyond a reproduction in this challenge and create an even stronger image in order to be a top image. IMHO. 5

My year!!! How did you get to the moon, when I checked, all flights were full .... haha! Good one! Although the pic in itself is grey and flat, it really looks true, so ... 8!
