This image was taken at sunrise on a clear Sunday morning. I wanted clouds but none were to be found during the challenge week.

The title has meaning. Saguaro cacti are called “silent sentinels” by local residents. That is because they stand as if watching high above all other vegetation and can live up to 200 years. Most of the ones with arms are older than Arizona has been a State in the United States.

It was cropped and color adjusted to draw out the deep blue early morning sky.

Gorgeous silhouette. I love the colors, spectacular. Focus is excellent, use of light is obviously wonderful. The simplicity of the cactus shape and its starkness against the color really help promote the alone and solitude feelings. Excellent image. 10

Very beutiful colors and I also like the contrast between light and darkness. A better than usual use of a siluette.

The colors are truly amasing. To place the sun behind the cactus works very well.

Beautiful sunset/sunrise. Great vibrant hues in the sky. Perfect exposure helps with the bold shadow of the cactus. Looks like fingers reaching for the sky. Very pleasant and calming shot. "10"

Very soft image with the sunset background, but the subject itself pops out. I like the negative space, but I'm still having an inner debate whether or not I would have changed the orientation and rearranged the negative space to add more upwards, while removing from the left. Given that the image is so straight and has a natural upwards motion, as well as the majority of the suns colours being really centralized I think I would have flipped to portrait. But that's just my opinion. I still really like the shot as presented.

Great silhouette, beautiful colors. I like how the horizon is at an angle; I think that works better against the cactus than a level one would. 9

Beautiful colors and crispness. I like how the tip of the cactus melts into the blackness of the sky. Nice capture.
