Used a 1 million candle spotlight, lighting up the rocks by pointing the light behind me against the ground for just a few seconds and continuing with the rest of the exposure.

This image certainly suits your name to a "T" :-) If you asked me to select the best image of "planet making" from the DPC archives, this might be it... I'd love to hear some details of how this was done, specifically the lighting. |

Am I allowed to just say "cool"? Cool! You obviously know why it's cool. I don't have to explain it. I guess I'll just say that beyond the obvious, I like the composition. It's in tight, a little disorienting. Love it. 8 |

I like the use of flash at night on this shot, and the stars. Very effective. |

The stars are sublime. Beautiful lighting, too. Not sure about the area in the right-hand corner, but maybe that is too picky. |

Wow!!!!! I will definitely be checking this one out after the challenge to see what settings you used and hopefully you told something about how you got this photo. I'm in awe that you got so much beautiful light on that rock, and still showed so much detail in those stars. This is one of the best star photos I've ever seen! 10 (If you see another favorite added -- that's me :) |

so very cool - the color of the rocks and the crazy number of stars in the sky is amazing |

Good compo but may have been a candidate for some selective desaturation or colour balance manipulation, or even putting it in negative... |

7 - Nice, hope it is 'real'. Two main factors holding this back for me are the bottom right corner dominates too much and the overall balance/framing - perhaps a variation may have made this even better, not sure. Difficult, but the beginnings of star trails, either 'more' or less, may also have made this even better in my opinion. Also, the sky perhaps, including the color(s), coming through just a little stronger, to give this even more impact/drama. |

This has a lot of merit, the intriguing part is to capture the light with no sky rotation hoe did you do this....10 |
