Challenge: Reflections Without Mirrors III (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Pentax *ist DL
Lens: Tamron AF 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 Aspherical XR IF Super Zoom for Pentax
Location: Shelby Farms Lake - Shelby County
Date: Nov 4, 2006
Aperture: 5.6
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/60
Galleries: Animals
Date Uploaded: Nov 4, 2006

Shot in the morning and looking at it now I wish I could have shot it later in the day so the sun might provide a stronger reflection.

Probably won\'t score well as the colors in the relection are not strong enough. 4.25 - 4.50 prediction. Personally, I think it is about a 5.0 but DPC voters tend to be more harsh than me.

I'll likely get comments saying looks out of focus too, but it is in focus. The oils on the head of this duck were very strong so it comes off as a little oversharpened though I did no sharpening on it (I did do a small USM).

PP in Paint Shop Pro:
Crop
USM - 65%
DeSaturate the blues slightly
Saturate Yellows
Bump up contrast , brightness
Add border

Seven - 2's??? Really? I mean, I can see some of the technical flaws, but 2's? Geesh. Tough crowd. or trolls..lol.

Well, it scored right about where it should (4.93) instead of 5.0 (predicted)

The reflection came off as more shadow than reflection and the intersection of the rock to the duck's head did not help.

I saw your post in the Challenge Results forum, about not getting comments on this entry. I think most of the comments go to pictures that stand out in some way, usually either good or bad. This one is neither, it fits somewhere in the middle (I gave you a 5). It's a nice shot of a duck, nicely composed, nice colors, good detail. But...you got it right yourself, the reflection isn't very strong, the rock is sticking out of its head, and it looks like there is some camera shake. I know if I were shooting handheld at 1/60 with the lens zoomed out to 200, I would never get a shot that didn't have some shake in it.

Hope that helps.

Most excellent duck shot, but there's still more duck than reflection, pictorially. 6

Crisp focus on the feathers... I like how the drakes eye has a glint in his reflection too.
