 Tennis court with Wilson tennis ball and ant. I was trying for strong shadows from the net, maybe on the ball, but the clouds refused to cooperate. Along came an ant to give me a story. I sat there spinning the ball to keep the ant on it, waiting for the clouds to move - then there was little time to try to check focus, let alone frame, before the ant crawled out of position, and the clouds covered the sun all over again. I never got all of the shadows, autumn colors, nice blue sky with clouds, and ant at the same time, so this is it.

The light after the local New Providence HS girls tennis match in the PM was poor, so this was taken the next morning - hope that it's not a problem.


The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L lens was borrowed.
Focal length 19mm, Exposure Bias -2/3.

PS rotate, crop, levels, convert to sRGB, resize, USM, save for web.

Similar to an idea I had but did not find the time to shoot - mine invloved a soccer ball and night. I'd suggest moving the camera to the right a bit - i like the ball's shadow but not the building in the back right. A bit less DOF would have helped some too - not too shallow, but just less.

This has a lot of potential. I like the angle and the composition, but I think the ball shoudl be placed a little more to the right or you could step a bit more to the left. Just a matter of personal taste.

As far as composition goes I think the this photo would go over better if the ball was placed slightly more to the right. However the subject is pleasing to the eye.

to be in the contest or not to be in the contest. the field is empty and the ant on the ball seems to prove it but perhaps the situation can be uncertain. I think that the composition isn't perfect because the ball is too much in the middle. the colours are good.
