 Simple lighting:

800 watt strobe mounted on boom with large rectanglar softboox above the "model" (my assistant) and two large white reflectors on either sides of him. Add a magnifying glass taken apart and voila.

I know it's a classic in photography, but then again what isn't?!

interesting, but may have been beter upside down as area of focus is upside down in your picture. If I had turned it upside down, i would also reverse it, i.e.the figure on the right as you have it.
