 Hope I dont get ripped on for mishandling a bug. I had no inspiration for either open challenge but since I am in the MS tournament I have to submit something. While checking the mail I came across this big leaf hopper in our driveway. It is gettin gcold here and I was surprised to see him around. He wasnt really moving much - still alive but on his last legs. Popped him in a cup and then went to the oxymoron list to see if I could find something that would fit. Bug Free Software was about it. Took my Print Shop software discs and taped them together. Set them on a bowl to angle on top of our sheet of black velevt. Set up outside in the shade of our back porch (favorite area for nice lighting) and shot away. I just held him by his wings in front of the discs and shot with my other hand. I let him go immediately after shooting - though he probably didnt last long afterwards. He really wasnt doing good. I dont expect this to do gangbusters. I just hope it beats Alainand doesnt drag my average down too much.

Shot in RAW with a variety of adjustments before converting it over to PS (exposure, sharpness, saturation and the contrast adjustments), levels, USM, saturation, NI, resize for web, crop and border.

I thought this was one of the more creative oxymorons - and rather fitting. Technicals are pretty good, particularly the bug. Might even make a good stock picture with the same title, though you'd want to somehow disguise the software names. Probably should have scored just a bit higher, though I do think Alain fairly won the head to head on this one.

Tim, this is a really good picture. It's sharp, colorfull and it really meets the challenge. This should have finished higher.

Nice idea, colors, composition, lighting, DOF, should emote a chuckle or groan from most people. Hope you didn't squish this bug. ;-)
