Perhaps over-FX'd - even for this subject but that does not detract from an excellent shot. The model's face looks genuinely scared of something with the fear captured beautifully in the eye. It's dramatically lit, well composed, very impactful and successful in its aim. [8]

This is an awesome example of where the grain of a higher ISO works very well! Great expression!

This is very powerfu image of a child's fear. But I don't like the noise you added to it. It really distracts from the shadowy feeling. (just my taste)

That's a wondereous one. Was the noise used on purpose?

This is an image we can all relate to. The grainy texture works here. One of my favorites in this competition

A bit much grain for my taste, but definitely looks scary!

This shot is a bit noisy and grainy to me, the look of surprise is great, the unexpected. I do like the soft focus too, if it was just a little cleaner.

I really like this. The light and the shadowing is excellent and I like the grainy effect.

nice effect. After the challenge I would like to know which filter you used...
The expression of the boy is pefect

Excellent idea and very nicely done. The graininess bothers me a bit even though I'm sure it is deliberate to enhance the nightmarish mood. I might have tried a soft focus instead but this is still a super entry and one of my top 5

captures that feeling of being awake in the darkness and seeing a spooky shadow - scary. The grainyness mimics the limits of our vision in the dark, adds to the uncertainty that causes the fear. I like the diagonal light over the face, dramatic.

One of favorites this challenge. the shadow crossing the face, his very spooked expression and the noise you used to finish the shot makes this work for me. Good Job 9

funny when you are a kid how shadows are so scary isn't it?

Nice image. I like the graininess and the way the shadow falls across his face. His eyes tell the story.

The grain is a little over done, but could really be nice if toned down a bit. The major thing that might be improved is if I could see more of his other eye. Just a little less contrast, and it'd show up enough to balance out his face.

I like it! The graininess works well here, the b/w is good, and the boy's expression excellent. Good work! ~10

I like the idea and the execution but i don´t like the coarseness in the photo. - 5

Nice photo-reminds me of close encounters. The grain and lighting sell it.

To me, the grain doesn't work. Maybe a strange color would have helped.

Very cool... The expression on the kid's face conveys "nightmare" well. The noise adds to the effect. Great job! 8.

I really hope this places. I know I've been having nightmares about it since I first saw it. The graininess is perfect and the shadow is fantastic. The expression on his face is absolutely haunting. Very well done. I wish I could give it an 11. Congratulations.

I love this photo - the light is exquisite, the graininess reminds me of black and whte TV from my childhood. This is a really scary image. His eye is the focal point but his ear is almost equally emphasized. His mouth, careful not to make a sound, forms the third point of a triangle which in turn is cut by the shadow - Lots of great leading lines here especially the lineof his gaze which leads, not off the photo but somewhere out in front of it. I like that the shadow is formlless, makes it much scarier if you let the view supply his own personal terror. 10

I really like this. The capture of fear and the (I'm assuming) deliberate noise create a dream world. I hope you don't get docked fro the noise. Good luck.

I really like the noise added to this photo to add to the nightmarish effect. Good expression too. Does not have that "posed" look to it. Lighting really emphasized the eye and the shadow. Well done.

I love this photograph. It feels very Hitchcock to me. There's a coarseness to the photo that really grabs the eye, it plays well with the black & white. Definitely gives that sharp stroke of fear. Great work, gave it a 9

Classic! Though a little grainy.

nicely composed shot. I like the catchlight in the boy's eye and his open mouth look of fear. I think a grainy effect could have worked well here but the way you implemented it is too harsh. subtler grain tones would have been better.

It seems that the noise in this photo was deliberate, but I don't care for it much...I love the idea and the look on the boys face.

Best I\'ve seen so far. The grain, the black and white, the shadow, the look on the boy\'s face ... this is a classic nightmare shot. I can't get over how well this meets the challenge; I keep coming back to look!

The photo is very grainy, however, that seams to add to the effect of the photo. I don't know if that was intentional, but if it was (as I suspect), nicely done.
