Taken at Platte Clove, in the Catskills on a DPC GTG. This is a falls just before you get to the stone bridge near Devil's Kitchen.
I liked the way this looked in color as well, and actually like the full view one with more folliage. But in the B&W high contrast version, I opted to crop to bring out the falls, and take advantage of the darker rocks for contrast.
Not sure whether voters will expect Uber contrast, but this seems to be nice high contrast to me.
Processing was very simple. Very little! I converted to BW just by desaturating during conversion. I know that's not normally recommended, but RSP seemed to do a good job, and I can't use my favorite action--Gorman's technique in basic.
After loading into PS, I cropped, did a USM for Local Contrast Enhancment, reduced, and resharpened. Then applied a very light Shadow Highlight filter to bring out a bit of the shadow detail. |
