 A Pygmy Hedgehog, again from the shelter. Not terribly social and not cuddly enough for my taste, but very cool looking! I especially love how his quills cross in the middle like each side is doing battle with the other.

[In response to the size question: he's about 9" long. I don't know how much he weighs as I wasn't the one holding him. Google "African Pygmy Hedgehog" for more info on these critters.]

actually, I don't think you're emphasizing texture in this shot. What's far more striking is how he is foreshortened by the head-on view. Fascinating shot.

Great face shot, it's rare to be able to see a hedgie with his eyes open and not all bristled up. I like the dof you've chosen as well.
