Greetings from the Critique Club!

Wow, I loved this in the challenge, and have already left you a personal comment so you know I love it. Let’s dive a little bit further in and see what we can findâ€Â¦

Composition:

The rule of thirds is all over this one. Love the coyote on the one, but the dark forest using up the left third gives my eye plenty of motivation to stay over to the right.

Love the addition of the diagonal line giving us a hint of some energy and again leading the eye from the left into the right section of the frame to your superbly focused subject.

Lighting:

Looks like you had an overcast day – the soft light playing on the leaves in the background add texture and interest back there, but still leaves LOTS of detail in the shadow areas of your subject. Some of that may have come out in the shadow/highlight but still leaving plenty of good 3d definition in the whole scene, and in your subject in particular.

If it were a perfect world:

At least according to me, I’d have a shot like this in my portfolio. This is the section where I tell you something that I would change in the photo – I got nothing! I just think it’s right on.

I think this is a great example of basic compositional elements being combined with spot on focus and excellent choice of f-stop to create a wonderful photograph. This is great work. You should be proud.

Feel free to contact me with any questions regarding this critique through the message system here on DPC.

Regards,
Doug

I think this is stunning, I gave you a 10.

50 is robbery, go sell it for $1800, you'll feel all kinds of better! :-)

Very nice shot. Great colors. The detail and position of the coyote are excellent. For some reason the bokeh or texture in the background is a bit distracting, but an excellent shot overall. 8

Lovely shot and the title made me laugh! Great colors.

A nice natural portrait, good detail, light etc.; I'd have done something about the sheer brightness of the background - the yellow moments in the trees are really very bright, and could easily have been calmed down a touch to stay as just background.

What piercing eyes. Like the grainy bg and colors. Good luck on this captivating study.

"Dude, Read my eyes! I'm scopin' for Babes!"
Humor aside, Nice DOF! However, bokeh around the coyote is a judgment call because it seems to blend into the subject...IMHO. Overall, very nice photo. :)

Excellent capture of the coyote. Very nicely lit and sharp. However, I'd have to say that the background qualifies as "bad" bokeh. I don't know if it's the lens or PP, I'm guessing a filter was used on the background. You still get a good score though, but would have been higher with a better BG treatment. 7

My focus keeps being drawn to the tree trunk centre left, wolf is almost lost in the background.

love the foreground and the coyote but the back ground seems a mess from processing perhaps over sharpened

I really like and enjoy looking at the photograph. I really like the head on angle with the animal. The only complaint I would have is that on my screen at least (LCD) it appears to be over-sharpened and in my opinion that detract from it's appeal just a bit. Most notable I think in the background of the photo. Good luck with the challenge!!!

The pointelist background is almost too unreal. But this is a really lovely image. 10.

I like the effect you have added to the background. This really makes the coyote stand out. Also, capturing the eyes looking right at you is terrific! If I were to change anything, I might have darkened the background just a bit.

such a gorgeous creature...nicely captured...perhaps a bit oversaturated

Wow...that's pretty crazy, but cool DOF stuff going on the background. Is it even possible for that coyote to be any sharper. Excellent!

Love the detail you capture on this pretty guy ...that intense stare is amazing. Was this in the wild or at a zoo?

Good composition and interesting subject. Just think it´s greatly oversharpened, exspecially the blurred background.

Wonderful job on the animal. I don't really like the background because the pattern is distracting. I would prefer a more soft focus for the background on this.

Considering the colour of the dog, he stands out very well against the background. The sharpness here is great!
