The weather would not work with me so I had to make my own... I was just about to give up on the challenge today, but decide that I can always be creative and make my own rain! I went outside in full sun so I could use a fast shutter and try to capture a rain drop as it hits the table. Unfortunatly all the pics of water splashing were just not that good. After looking at 200+ images I found this one that was just the drops dripping from the table with no splash. Wish I would has saw this before the sun went down as I would has shot with a better iso. I really liked this shot so I decided to do some color manipulation just playing around. The original pic is really blue due to the clear skies. I played with the curves, levels and hue/saturation to later come to this image. I am pretty happy with the way it turned out!

Hello from the Critique Club,

I enjoyed reading your comments on how this picture was captured. You did a very effective job at making it look like the image was taken just after it stopped raining. Your post processing work is very good and the compositional arrangement of the table and use of DoF are excellent. So why didn't this score better? It's called the DPC game. Even challenges like rain, where people don't expect to see highly saturated images, the voters look for two things, mood and creativity. Your image doesn't have a lot of "Gee, I wish I had thought of that" to it and that is reflected in the score.

Your understanding of the technical aspects of photography leads me to believe you will score consistently in the sixes once you figure out how to play the game. I'm still working on this myself. Good luck with future challenges.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding this critique.

I don't think that the shalow DOF on this works very well, I would like to see a bit more...

I love simple shots like this. The shallow depth of field really works for me to add interest. The *drab* colors help to reinforce the theme of rain, and sets a tone or mood for the shot.

Interesting textures, and the steely cold metal contrasts nicely against the warm lights reflected in the pools and droplets of water. Good choice of subject matter for this category, as it definitely captures the "feeling" of rain.
