I realy thought this was a model plane--

The colors were so sharp and the white background make it look like a toy plane--

I wish I would have paid more attention (like the Prop being blurred), or I would have scored it alot higher than than the 6, I gave it--

Sorry

Thanks everyone for the votes and kind comments left below...

For those who asked, this was taken with me on the ground, and the plane was just about leveled off from a banked turn as it passed in front of me. It was taken at Alliance Air Show in Fort Worth Texas, and the shot is of pilot Gene Soucy and his brave wing-walking accomplice, Teresa Stokes. I had been panning with the plane through its turn and I let the camera track it with its AI Servo focus mode. I was shooting handheld with a Sigma 50-500mm lens that was fully extended to the 500mm position. I was in Tv (shutter priority) mode and was shooting relatively slow (1/350ms) to get some blur in the prop. The plane just almost filled the frame as it was, so there was very little cropping on it.

This air show was my first outing with my 10Dâ€Â¦ It had just come in two days prior and it is my first venture into the exciting world of DSLR, so I had a pretty big learning curve that day! I had quite a few bad shots, but I walked away with a few decent ones too so overall I was pleased.

Thanks again everyone!
Jason

Great capture. A nice blue sky would have really made this pop though.
Nice to see some motion on the propeller to give the feeling of flight.

Cute shot, was it taken from another airplane?

Very cool photo, I actually don't mind that you've framed it as tight as you have. Not much else to say except nice work.

:-) You've got to be a bit mad to do that. A less tight crop would work better, IMHO. As it is we've no idea how far off the ground it is.

Cool shot! Very detailed!!! (Love the title, he's braver than I'd ever be!) Too bad about the drab weather, but I'll not nick you any points for it. Very strong contender. 10 Rob the Swash

I like the red/yellow color combinations against the white background. It works well. I am not quite sure how you got in so close at the same level, but I am guessing the plane was banking and you took it from the ground right?

Very vivid colors of the subjects really help to make them pop out of the shot. You can still see some really nice shadow and reflections even with the blown out lighting. Kind of funny how the guy is hanging on to the plane. Don't know how you got the shot, but it's incredible. Looks like you flying right next to them.

Occasionally you see an image that, at first glance, is clearly the class of the challenge. This is one of those images. Perfect framing, composition and solid white background works well here. Classic flight subject perfectly captured.

the sky is a bit whitish, maybe a polarizing filter would have helped. great shot of the plane and acrobat!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is looking forward to learning more about this one -- namely how you were able to get this angle! Very cool shot -- nice & crisp with great colors. If only the sky had cooperated with you to be a little more blue! A 10 all the way. And let me be the first to congratulate you on your ribbon! :)

This looks like a toy model plane -- not a real one -- but on close inspection, you see the people, the propeller moving and other signs of flight. Incredible capture!!! If you aren't a professional photographer for a living -- maybe you should consider it? My highest compliments...10

You'll win this challenge, hands down. Congrats!
