We've had a monarch or two flying around our shop for the past couple weeks, this poor little guy just didn't quite make it. Saw it & instantly thought of Joey Lawrence's "Fallen" & "Delicate" pictures. Hopefully I did it some justice.

Greetings from the critique club.

I'll start by aying that overall I tihnk the image is good. I usually like to aproach these from a couple of angles, how the score could have been better and how the image could be better (or how I think both are great:))

on the score, I think you did ok for this type of image although I'm sure not where you wanted. Dead things have to be superb to get good scores usually here. you stated in the title you were paying tribute to joey and that can always be bad as you will be compared and scored lower by some people if you don't do it as well.

on the image, While I think your image is fine I don't think you have captured the essence of Joey's Delicate. For me the reason his photo wroks is because of the cars passing by not caring about the insignificant butterfly on the side of the road. it shows how small the butterfly is in the scheme of things. you could have achieved similar results if you would have included something else in the photo.

I think the technicals are very good and you have done a good job with the image as it stands on its on. I really like it. I would have given it a 6 or 7.

Guess I should've put quotes around the title maybe? I don't know, I always liked the "Fallen" by Joey & thought of it when I took this but didn't want to "steal" the idea, hence the tribute. Finished alright though & I like it :)
Thanks for the comments

Fallen? Is there something about Joey that I've missed? Now you've got my curiousity peaked and I can't think about the photo...

Nice color and detail in your photo. I wish there was a little more taken off the top and more room to the right, but nonetheless a very nice capture. Not getting the connection in the title however. What in the world does Joey Lawrence have to do with this shot???

Poor monarch. I like your shallow DOF.

butterflys are overdone on DPC...good colors, although I wonder if you could have found a more favorable background...an old tree stump, for example

The butterfly is a good contrast to the grey pebbles.

It was the road and speeding cars going past that made his.
