Challenge: A Single Tree (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S2 IS
Location: Coastguard Station, Ucluelet, BC
Date: Sep 8, 2006
Aperture: 3.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/100
Galleries: Nature, Still Life
Date Uploaded: Sep 10, 2006

At sunset a single beam penetrated the edge of the woods to illuminate only this. Just a very few dark leaf shapes were visible in the background, and curves adjustment took care of those.
Otherwise, just did the basics; colour/saturation, USM, bit of burn and dodge, resize, save for web

Nice - the black space all around works great in bringing the focus to the small tree. Cloning out the green items by the foot of the tree might have helped make the focus there even stronger. Still - I really like this shot and gave it an 8 overall.

I love the simplicity and strong lighting of this one. Really good job. Leaf is wonderfully apparent. Nice job.

Nice but too much negative space. It does serve to focus on the subject of the image, but it is just too black!

Like the lighting and I like the concept. I think a bit of a tighter crop would have worked better here, particularly one that lopped off a bit of the growth at the bottom left to give even more attention to the highlighted piece of plant in the center (which the lighting has basically put a spotlight on). Nice shot, good luck.

Nice idea. Trees grow again from their roots in times of disaster.

I like your theme. Did you consider a tighter crop? Perhaps just above the sprout under the moss and the right side of the on the stump?
