Challenge: A Single Tree (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM
Location: Brimham Rocks, Ripon, Yorkshire
Date: Sep 6, 2006
Galleries: Landscape
Date Uploaded: Sep 9, 2006

The title (Ed did it first) is my way of acknowledging Ed Clarkes (e301) earlier version.
I have known this area for over fifty years and it seems as though this tree has always been there. The roots are at least twenty feet from the ground. I immediately thought of this tree when I first saw the challenge. I tried to take it from a different viewpoint but could not climb the rocks with all the camera gear or shoot a good pic from any other viewpoint.

Great location. I like the combination of colors. Too bad for the shadows, I think with the sun from the opposite direction, it would look better.

Haha I know exactly where this is, and I know what your title refers to ;-)

Nice one, I think the blue sky and sun is not quite so dramatic as the original by Ed, nor as atmospheric as the misty weather we enjoyed at our get together. We must do that again sometime. All the same its a good image, nicely set up and executed.

Now is this John or Pauline I wonder?

This is a really great shot, and one of the few pictures of "a simple tree out in nature" that I do enjoy. Of course, this challenge is flooded with them, so that makes it all the more difficult for photos like this to stand out. That being said, your composition, awareness of color, and only very subtle apparent post modification help it to remain loking pure and striking. The sky is great as well - you definitely picked the right time to snap the shutter. My only real critique would be to try to up the creativity level for next time - it's obvious you have an eye for a shot, so stretch yourself a little for future challenges. I do think there's a fine line between setting up a photo that spells out the challenge theme creatively and just being downright goofy, but as long as you approach it with care you'll be fine. This is one of my favorites in the competition.

Curious about the title, love the tree, a true survivor!
