Pastel challenge, what better subject than Pastels?!

Tried different arrangements and wanted a black background. Used some foam core and basically shot thie image using window light.

EDITING:
Levels, healed out some dust from the pastels, a little burning, USM, Noise Ninja, resize then tried some Neat Image and it seemed to add to the softness. Blurred a couple of edges. USM with very mild settings.

I like the depth of field and the way it fades off in the distance and ads some interest...I love macro photography

Critique Club Review:

Focus is good. Depth of field is so shallow that the yellow block looks soft on the right half of the face because the edge doesn't stand out and the face in that area is featurless. Since your goal was a very shallow depth of field, I won't argue with you. Though with the title and the soft focus, my first thought was moldy cheese.

Lighting, color, saturation, contrast, and hue are all done well. Except for the afore mentioned yellow block, the features on the faces of all the other blocks are nice and sharp, with plenty of texture and relief from proper lighting.

Nice take on the challenge, and a very enjoyable picture.

I really like the comp and the colors and tones as well as the idea. The DOF, However, Because its so shallow seems like it was produced in PP.

Gosh! Finally! Apparently this challenge was too much for many to grasp--but YOU have nailed it. Visual interest in the textures and colors and the blurred/short DOF adds interest as well.

Was the blur achieved in camera or added in photoshop? It feels to dramatic. would have preferred less blur. I like how it looks like scooped ice cream. Vanilla, butterscotch, strawberry, chocolate and blue raspberry. Not sure what to call the purple one. ;)

I like the focus and the pastels, but I think the background should be white. The black takes away from the lightness of the pastels.
