This is one of those "at the right place, at the right time" sort of photographic opportunities. I took this picture out at my parents house in a rural part eastern Colorado. The weather out there, as in most of Colorado, is always changing. This particular day, I watched the impending storm from the southeast roll in and it got very dark, and then, for about 4 minutes, the afternoon sun peeked out from the west and lit my father’s sunflower patch just perfectly. It looked so beautiful- the contrast of these bright yellow flowers against the dark blue stormy sky.
PP:
Rotate, crop, burn petals, burn a few areas of leaves, hue/sat, levels, clone minor bits in BG to clean up, NI, add thin border, re-size, save for web. |

The buidlings distract in the background. Otherwise this is a very nice image. |

Spectacular color levels and tones without getting the contrast too high.
Powerful and well done detail-wise. |

That is some wicked depth you have there! So very few pictures that one can feel like they can step right into. This is definitely one of them.
Spectacular. |

I have always loved sunflowers with a dark blue. Pillows, napkins, etc... I just always have admired it. And you have placed this wonderful combination in a photo. Also, the great color combination is enhanced by great focus and composition. The border is a nice touch - I feel like the color really works. |

you should have placed the right flower at 1/3 & 1/3.
The border doesn't add to the picture. |
