this is really easy to do, although not legal in basic. i do a duplicate layer, and do a high pass filter on it, blending option soft light. do a layer mask, and just have the eyes show through. this sharpens and slightly darkens the eyes. i do another layer and set it to screen in the blending options, using the same layer mask pattern. i usually set the opacity of the screen layer a bit lower, or it looks a little freaky...

| I liked this one so much during the voting, maybe it's the freckles..just wish they had come out stronger and with more contrast..nice focus in the eye.. |

I like the composition, but the overall tone seems a bit "flat".
A minor bump in contrast maybe?
OK, I saved it and took it into Photoshop to see what I think it needs.
Image, Adjustments, Levels, Options, 0.5 clip set in shadows and highlights (my defaults), OK, then Edit, Fade, fade to taste, but not below 50%. (60-70% looks pretty decent to me) |

| Quite a dull (in terms of tones) image. Contrasts could be bumped quite a bit. |
