Cropped, applied levels and curves, sharpened. Would have liked to use old-fashioned, official looking ledgers but . . .

uh, i'm not a really big fan of people burning books. Even for a photo.

A lot of photographs this week attempting to be funny but this was the only one that made me laugh out loud. Good job. I bet you have got a load of comments about the graininess of the picture, but I guess this is the quality of your camera.

i get it, but don't really think this image was captured well. I'd like more context... a wider shot. Perhaps with other books waiting their turn. perhaps a bigger pot with more books. 4 sjgleah

Funny idea! I can't make out what kind of a stove this is on.
07/31/2002 11:19:00 AM
Nice idea shame about the grain. I suspect the problem here is caused by either excessive compression of the jpeg image or by enlarging a small image or small part of a larger original. Sorry but it spoils the whole thing for me.

Very interesting cliche.

Anderson's accounting methods eh?
07/30/2002 05:16:00 PM
hah... excellent concept! Perhaps a re-take is in order with some better lighting

I really like your idea but I don't like how fuzzy the picture is. Maybe a shot before the water started to boil and steam up the area
07/30/2002 12:35:00 PM
Nicely framed--I like how it fills the picture. It is too grainy, though. If it was done on purpose, it keeps the viewer from really identifying the books, which are apparently a vital part of the picture. Did steam cause it? karmat

Lovely texture and movement. But they're the wrong kinds of books. Colours and contrast also a little lacking.
07/30/2002 01:52:00 AM
thats real??? ohhhh!!!!!!!!!
07/29/2002 06:36:00 PM
I thought about doing that myself and decided it wouldn't look good enough to work for the challenge, not with what I was willing to invest into a setup. looks like you tried to keep it simple. too simple for my taste and the quality (focus, colors and choice of books) is pretty low, imho. 4 beegee

An interesting idea, but the picture is a bit fuzzy. Also I'd have liked to see business-related books instead of novels.

I like the color of the burner, and the smoke from the books, but this is a stretch, for the challenge (everybody else is doing it....) For dumb's sake : Cooking the books refers to ledger sheets, not reading books. (sort of a joke) What else is in the stew? (newt of tax collector?) (another joke attempt) The pot is almost too dark to view (thank god for the handle). 5 Swash
07/29/2002 12:58:00 PM
great idea...would have lked it better if the books were a little sharper
07/29/2002 10:57:00 AM
great title. nice composition. I like the clipped edge. Your burner is weird...too much photoshop?
07/29/2002 09:59:00 AM
Cooking paperbacks isn't really the meaning of that statement. Still, it is effective.
07/29/2002 07:15:00 AM
Funny play on words. I wish the books being cooked were recognizable.
07/29/2002 05:30:00 AM
LOL! Good idea.
07/29/2002 04:35:00 AM
Perhaps some ingredients need to be in the background. Take a look at the photos in a magazines recipe slot and try to replicate thier style, only with books instead of carrots, then the meaning will come acroos more clearly.

great imagination
