 I just received my new lens in the mail yesterday (85mm f1.8), and took some test shots. Meet Phil, one of my beagles. I love this little face -- trusting and vulnurable.

It seems that every time I try to shoot something specifically for a challenge, I'm not happy with the results. When I just shoot for fun, I have much better results. I snapped this photo along with some others, not even thinking about the challence, and only realised this morning that I liked this one for this challenge.

The only processing done to the image was to level, desaturate (to create the black and white) and crop.

This is my second challenge and I really didn't think this photo would do so well. I lurk quite alot on the forums and read the comments on challenge photos to learn more about composition, techniques, and such. Most folks are tired of seeing pet pics, so I appreciate everyone's tollerance of the photo subject!

Lovely b&w...sure we are tired from pet photos but this is made very tasteful. Great choice of focus.

what a beautiful little dog, I am not sure if this is the use of DOF or soft focus but I am going to go with the latter is this is overall a nice image :o)
