Great picture Setzler... It really conveys life "In the beginning". Excellent in every other way as well. Glad to see your great photos again!

:O How did I miss this when I was commenting?!
This rocks!!

This shot is setup on my computer desk. The ambient light from the monitor is providing light on the mannequin while a mini-mag flashlight is hitting the marble...

Congrats on a Top Ten John, although I expected this to ribbon. I would love to see your lighting setup for this shot. Did you use a small flashlight (like a mini-maglite) to control where the light hit? I bought a couple of these wooden guys, but the springs are too tight and I can't pose it well. I am hoping they will loosen up over time... Per my previous comment, I still put this shot in the Viper Mike category (which would be "Excellent").

Looks like a ViperMike image! If not, consider it a compliment! Excellent concept, lighting, DOF, composition, etc. Perfect in all aspects! I love the way you were able to pinopint the light on the marble! Gets a 10 from me. I would have given it an 11 if you had found a marble that resembles the Earth.

The universe is a marble and 'God' is a big wooden figure. I can relate : )

On a serious note, I like that the figure and desaturation means that 'God' is portrayed as having no discernable gender, race, or colour.
Photo-wise, the composition, focus/DoF and exposure (especially the blown out area on the left side of the marble) are all spot on. Not 100% sure about the yellow, would be interesting to play about with hue-shifting that. Still, gotta give this full marks.

Incredible details in the hands holding the marble. The beautiful yellow marble and its great reflection in the hand really make it pop out of the picture. The depth of field gives the piece a lot of interest. "10"

OH good, I forsee another "how'd they do that" segment coming up. How'd you get the wood to be gray?
09/19/2003 09:53:14 AM
Great Photograph, I love the Depth of Field. and the colors.

Nice shot! Lighting is quite attractive. Can\'t imagine who in their right mind would have wanted to disqualify this (I gather that\'s what\'s meant by \"validated by the administrators\").

There was a marble? Wow, I have to rethink EVERYTHING now...

VERY interesting... shame about the glare from the marble. Makes me ponder a lot, this one. Great lighting, wonderful concept. I'd have perhaps liked a blue/green marble. A good take on the challenge. 8
