From the Critique Club:
Interesting take on the challenge. Love the contrast that you have here: Fire and Water/Ice.
What I like: Love how you managed to capture the glass and cubes with no unwanted reflections. This is very difficult to do without sophisticated lighting. I also love the overall tonallity of the shot. I really like how you caught the reflection of the fire inside the glass on the left.
What I don't like: Don't know why but for some reason this looks to be crooked. I've checked and I don't think it is, but for some reason it looks that way. The flame doesn't seem to be in the glass. According to your description it is but it really appears to be behind the glass instead of inside. This is probably because the flame is behind all those cubes stacked up in front. Turn the glass around and you may have gotten more of what you were looking for. Your red background appears to be a touch noisy. Red is a tricky color to do for the web. I know. I have a few shots in my portfolio with problematic red tones.
All in all a very nice shot. I think that if you would have rearranged the ice in the glass (or maybe had a little less of it above the water line) that this would have been a VERY powerful image. I would love to see you recreate this untill you got one that turned out like you would have liked this one to. If you do decide to do this, please let me know as I would like to see it!
Yours

Great image. I like the colors and the play between the ice and fire. The lighting looks good and the focus is right there. Very nicely envisioned and captured. Bumping to a 6 |

I like the red color in the back. It really brings out the picture. |

Great idea but the flame is not "in' the glass enough - it looks like there is a candle behind the glass and I'm sure that's not the look you were going for |

Nice idea, like the red tones, but I feel the flame is almost lost behind the ice. Also, if the idea is to center the subject, I would use a tighter crop on the right. |

Very nice. My kind of image. I would have preferred a more prominent flame though. My top pick. |

Nice color! I do think the flame needs to be more obvious - its location and shape make it look almost like some kind of leaf. The background has a bit of noise, as well, so it might benefit from a pass through NI. |

Good idea but I am sure you know by now that the flame really should be in the glass for that WOW factor to start kicking in. Not a bad effort. 6

great title and a wonderful shot...love the red...only thing is that the flam looks like it's behind the glass, which I am sure is not what you wanted, but that's minor...well done 9 |
