I really think this one is more Zen like for me..the other feels aggresive, and a bit harsh..the red the feeling of impending doom, the bird is dead or about to be..this is balanced and simpler..that said I think the other is a more interesting piece of art..leaves me thinking more..I like that.. |

i like your entry better, as a photograph. graphically, i can't pick, as they are both incredible.

Ok now I have to explain...
it's not that I'm concerned about my scores. I always submit my favorite photograph. I like the one I submitted more even though I thought this one really summed up zen for me. I feel like this is more of a line drawing than photography and I hope everyone who commented on this photo will look at my actual entry after the challenge is over and tell me which one is more zen to you and if either one is actually in fact a photograph. |

Jason - you've been at this DPC thing for a while and it's about time you stopped caring about the scores!! If you like this for its zen quality then who else matters? Ok, it's a competition, but part of it is also having the conviction to submit your interpretation - and for the record I like this lots. Whether it's zen I don't know because everyone has their opinion on what it is (judging by my score at least) - and unless one swats up on the photographic definition of it and applies this is their priciple for voting.
Anyway, I've stopped babbling now you'll be glad to read...

I would not have marked this down. Looking through the "Zen" entries, this simple strong photo would have been one of my favorites. This is a perfect "Zen" - great work. |

I would say...... basic & insightful, primary & direct, mostly a unsentimental intrepretation of Zen - as a foto entry for a dpc Zen challenge, I see a refreshing graphic, for me requires no further colour or detail. |

Do you want someone to say, why oh why did you not enter it? It's zen, so you didn't and thereby you won your own unique challenge. Capital ZEN or is it spelled XEN in these weird days? JPR, you should not be so protective of your photos. It is a shot worthy of entering. |
