I lOVE this picture. Door knobs hold a lot of appeal to me. And weathered wood....one of my favorite elements. While looking for something to dislike or criticize, I found one thing. The nail in the wood on the side of the handle. It detracts from the aged quality. Out of your control probably. Still one of my favorites in the challenge. Very nice. I jsut see generations of use, but still useful. Love it!

Interesting texture :) I think this image may have had a little more impact shot at an angle where the door handle doesn't look at 2-dimensional... The shadow adds a little dimension but an angle would have been more powerful :) = 7 - jmsetzler

Total Score6

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

great shadows :)

Taken with a low sun, this would have a better shadow and warmer colours.

I like this one. I almost can feel the steel. Maby the shadow pull it a little bit down. All the details in the wood are great...but anyway. .nice work

Just beautiful. Love the subdued colors, the different colors of the rusty screws and the shiny nail. Even though the subject matter is "simple", there is a lot going on to interest the eye. Personally, I like quiet pics such as this. Well done.

great sharpness and detail. shadow placement isnt optimal though of the handle. i'd like to see it more out the side..

fairly boring at represented. The lighting it too bright and flat, black and white and some levles adjustment may have made this stronger. As is, would you want this on your wall?

this is a great example of texture! i like it a lot. the lighting is good and the shadow helps bring out the texture on the door. the title fits the pic well.

Very nice texture photograph. I am not sure what others will think, but my opinion is that the shadow adds greatly to the overall composition.

Nice texture, terrific composition.

nice texture on the wood

The shadow spoils it for me - otherwise nice texture...

looks too bright to me. otherwise nice but not spectacular. 5 beegee

You've done a good job of naturally including more than one texture in to this shot

This is a really neat picture. I love it, except I wish that the shadow were in a different position, maybe hidden behind the handle. Very unique! 8

Would be even better without the harsh shadow.
07/22/2002 01:41:00 PM
Good composition with very sharp focus. I do find that the lighting is somewhat harsh and I have mixed feelings about the shadow. Perhaps a different time of day or a diffuser would help.

Great shot, wonder how it'd look with a little fill flash from the left to soften the shadow would be?
07/22/2002 10:17:00 AM
great composition and textures

Lovely wood texture. Kee

Cool shot -- though how nice would it be if your handle shadow sort-of enclosed the knot in the wood?
07/22/2002 02:37:00 AM
nice grain!!
07/21/2002 09:40:00 PM
Good combination
