I like the picture a lot, but I think you should've used mori for the kanji representation instead (three trees arranged in a triangle instead of two side by side). My understanding is that "mori" has more the connotation of forest, and also, odd numbers of things jive better with Japanese aesthetic. |

i love the precise little details in this; what lessens the impact somewhat are the far eastern characters in the background. they're neither centred nor balanced on the side in some rule of third mannerism. they're also too blurry - it looks like a pair of crane flys landed on the lens! they're also totally redundant because the hands and single flower conveys much zen; a wide crop just below the tips of the index fingers gives a more pleasing balanced picture, i feel. i like the flower and hand elements a lot, so overall 7. |

How much I wish this was photo of just some soil/mixture and the plant/flower on white background. I like the idea but I find it too busy for the theme. Even without the hands and background text this would have worked fine (or maybe even better IMO). Still a great composition which is technically well executed.8. |

Very cute little flower. Now glue a dragon fly to that sucker and you have a winner. |

Although I like this photo and the concept, for me, the background letters and the foreground works against each other. I find that this causes me to want to look at each element individually, instead of as a whole. I guess just not enough simplicity, it makes me 'work' too much to see the whole interesting photo. |

Too contrived to be zen, IMO. |
