lot of gray - needs more contrast with light |

It shows up a little darker than I'd make it but I like the curves and varied patterns. |

A bit too dark and could use better contrast. |

nice texture. i wonder why you made this b&w? was it colored straw? otherwise color would've been nice. of course, i'm getting the same comments on my b&w entry this week and there was no way i could've submitted the color version ... so that may be the case here, too. the only other thing is that there's a lot of too dark areas right in the middle of your photo. would it have been possible to take the photo from a different angle, for example the area that is at the top where the lighting was more even? nice composition btw. -- gr8photos (5) |

A little dark and slightly out of focus. Nice texture here. |

Really cool idea. Your textures have _contributed_ to other elements of your photo, namely curvature and a sense of 3-dimensionality. Good job. |

Slightly out of focus. This has some interesting lines to it. |

Composition5 Originality6 Technical Aspects5 Meets Challenge6 Total Score6
For those that are just learning, like me.
Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.
Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.
Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.
Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.
There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.
Good luck!

What are those jaggies in the upper right corner of you picture ? It's a little disturbing, they may be caused by the photo-editing program you used to resize the picture, check the settings. I also had a hard time figuring out the perspective of what I'm looking at, at first look I thought the left part was over the rest, when in fact it's the opposite :) |

beautiful. front seems to be a bit unfocused, but the way this forces the eye move around is incredible. |

This is a little on the grey side to me...not so much black and white. Decent subject....just not a very exciting angle on it. 5 |

Cool... I really like the composition. I might have upped the highlights a bit, but otherwise, just fine. |

Too grey - adjust levels, saturation, and maybe contrast a bit before turning to grayscale. Focus is a bit off, too. Good texture. |

this is a good example of texture, but I feel that the lighting is too weak. = 5 - jmsetzler |

The composition appears good to me but the exposure is dark and lacking contrast so the form is not as clear as it might otherwise be. |
