Too dark.

very nice texture... i like the 'quiet' mood of this image... this is one of the few 'flat' 2-dimensional images that I have seen this week that I really like... good work :) = 8 - jmsetzler

Good question, and good riddle. I say 1 foot because there doesn't appear to be any atmospheric disturbance at all. The overall picture just seems flat to me. 7 nards656

I also liked "morning rain" very much - both sum up texture a lot more than any (in my opinion) other picture here so far, but this is my real winner. It has great depth, you can almost feel it... It's a great picture - good luck.

I think it's closer to 1 ft. No visual interest for me. No color, no variety.
07/24/2002 11:01:00 AM
Clever. Very dark though - needs about a stop more exposure.

Total Score10

For those that are just learning, like me.

Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.

Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.

Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.

Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.

There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

Good luck!

this is very subtle and beautiful

I really can't tell, and that's why I love this so much.
07/23/2002 10:47:00 AM
My guess: 1 foot. I think this is sand. Correct?
My critique: Good texture, but the hint at more light at the top right corner tells me there may have been an opportunity for better lighting to really bring out the subtlties of the colors and accent the water pathways. I give this a 6 based on this.
Of course, if "my guess" is wrong, then you had no control over any of it, but I think I'm right. ;-)

An interesting texture

Well, I'd guess 1. Nice photo. It might have been more dramatic if it was a little lighter.
07/22/2002 03:29:00 PM
Excellent question! This could even be a neural system or cappilaries.... Very cool photo!

Interesting...curious as to what this actually is now. Detail is good, but it seems a little dark.

the abstract quality of this shot is great, I like how you tied that into your title!
07/22/2002 08:25:00 AM
Is this diliberately under exposed or printed dark. I loaded this into Photoshop and adjusted the levels (equalise) which brought out some great highlights and shine, converted to greyscale worked really well and enhanced the texture, if you had uploaded that version I would have scored it very highly. I dont claim to be an expert but if you want to see what I mean I have loaded both versions here for you to compare. //uk.photos.yahoo.com/bc/martinwoods_uk/lst?.dir=/Yahoo!+Photo+Album

Cool texture, subject pretty much says it. This almost looks like a NASA shot.

Nice texture. I saw something similar not long ago done on a white sandy beach and it was amazing. I like this but it's just a bit dark.
