Found a whole bunch of these nasty but beautiful creatures this morning happily eating my one and only tomato plant (not much of it left :() As a consolation, at least now I have a shot...

In p/p converted from RAW, rotated, cropped, cloned empty areas in the corners that appeared due to rotation, sharpened, neatimaged, added 5 px frame, saved.

After challenge:

Yet another 7+ image and no ribbon (5th!!!)

Anyway, thanks so much for high grades and great comments! A ribbon would be nice, but a 4th place in such a tough field is not bad :)

Just shows how much I learned at the Nasti and Gary's workshop: lighting, posing, makeup, interaction with the model and such :)

Definitely worth a tomato plant for a shot like this! I can't believe how realistic the "eyes" look. It's as though they are pasted on. Amazing in every way!

I'm not usually one for bug photos but I can't stop staring at the eyes. The clarity is great and it creeps me out. This is my highest rating for a nature/bug/plant/flower photo since the flower challenge. 8.

When you're looking for one of these fellas you can't find em! ;^) We've had some big green tomato worms in our garden recently, but not one for at least a week (I've looked!).

Great choice for this challenge. The 'L' shape helps the composition tremendously and you've nailed the focus and exposure. Good luck!
