This is last moment effort and one that is going to encounter some resistance because many people do not understand the grayscale. When I was a child I was so deeply impressed when seeing oil paintings which rendered silver utensils. The end result was sheer magic, yet upon examination it was only a grayscale rendition. That is, the artist used mainly white and black to create the intermediary shades and hence the illusion.

Well, this challenge calls for b/w and this meets the challenge head on but the neophytes will argue that silver is a metal which is neither white nor black and maybe too shinny! They find it difficult to associate silver, pewter, white gold etc with the grayscale. To have a b/w challenge, really meaning a grayscale and then to expect stark black and white is a different challenge much like b/w with as little grayscale as possible. This is not to knock any entries which took the literal route but only to point out that what the challenge really calls for is the grayscale.

A simple image to create. A cardboard with black poster board and then two holes to insert the fingers. Clay is used to hint at the melting appendagages and small amounts of clay near where the fingers will be inserted. The clay is covered with the silver paint. The front of the fingers are then painted with silver and inserted for the shoot.

you have one too many fingers in your lumps of clay.. but i do really like the image and thoughts behind it, as well as your willlingness to enter it into the challenge knowing most people wouldn't get it :)

another fine image - i may have deepened the blacks a bit to hide the dust and fuzz on it. i have a similarly themed image from the 'something old' challenge

Peace

This is such a great idea. Sadly I agree that things are not looking good for the globe right now.

Very nice but it looks like there is some type of halo effect going around the bottom of the puddle. Not to noticeable though.

Great image, but much more suitable for chrome or silver challenges. Why didn't you use white paint, as that would have suited the challenge better.
