 This bug showed up, as if on cue, the night I read about the Insects challenge. I had tried to get some ants and a fly earlier in the day, but they were boring. This guy was definitely a little more interesting - I still don't know what kind of bug it was, it was one of those that sort of looks like a walking leaf. He was a tiny guy, maybe half an inch long.

I took the pictures using a reversed 50mm lens to get the extreme closeup. I got some branches and flowers from a bush in the yard, put them in a plastic tub and let him walk around on them. Lighting was provided by a 250w halogen light. Got about 100 shots (getting focus right with the reversed lens is kind of hit and miss - the DOF is razor thin) of him, then released him outside. About a dozen came out good enough to be considered.

This shot had two things going for it: first, it was kind of interesting. It didn't show the whole bug, but it had a little personality to it. Second, it had the best focus on the face of all the other shots. With the thin DOF, most shots had at least part of the face soft - this one had (I thought) great detail in the eyes and the lines on the face.

I keep thinking this bug reminds me of something, now I remember... those green alien toys (still can't remember what they're called) in Toy story? :P good job!

I love this. What is this creature? I love the fairydust look to the leaves/petals on this in contrast with the green of the bug. Beautiful textures.

What I really like about your shot is the soft periwinkle color that surrounds your shy bug, tho i do wish we could see more of him, he looks like a unique critter.

This is a wonderful combination of blues and greens. The title gives the bug a quality of cuteness. The blurred green in the lower right corner is a little distracting.

Hmm. Could be the winner. Interesting subject, nice composition, good exposure and focus and lovely colours too. It even (with the title) tells a story. Very nice job - well done.
