 This is Papa. You may recognize him from my "take two" challenge submission. He actually has a part gold tooth, but I bought him a fake one for the shoot. I bought two "flags" and put them on either side of his face so the light coming from the bounce flash would be centered on the face and then fall off.
Post processing:
First, I did a little cloning and dodging to make his left eye look a little more into the camera.
Cleaned up the edge of the tooth, because it didn't look exactly right.
Converted to black and white using channel mixer and then masked out the tooth.
A bunch of levels and curves with masks to even out the light and draw the eye more towards the teeth.
A little burning to emphasize the wrinkles.
Sharpen with USM and masked the edges to keep noise out of the black.
This is obviously a reference to the wonderful portrait by egillbjarki back in January. I want to thank him for sharing some of his secrets and helping people like me to take better pictures. Thanks to Papa for posing!

I gave this a 10 Bvoi and thought it would ribbon...I thought iot was one of Manny Librodos, which is a huge compliment to you...well done and congrats on your finish

What a face! Such character. Clever idea for the challenge, and I like how it came out. The teeth stand out extremely well because the face has such a deeply textured, rough look, and the teeth are so smooth and featureless.

Brilliant shot. Wonderful model and the selective desat is perfect. Looking forward to seeing a ribbon by this picture. Love it!

Edit - Back again to bump this one up - my top pick of the challenge and giving you the final two points to make it a ten. Great shot!

Edit one last time - wish I could give you one more point but I cant. So instead I add this to my favorite pics.

OK one more edit - I am tellin ya I love this shot. My wife just got home from a week long business trip and before I showed her my future entry I showed her this one. I am gonna be so mad if you dont ribbon. (Seriously I am not a DPC stalker)

ohh that just nails it between the eyes... GOOD, NO GREAAAT job man/woman...
absolutely brillian.. i havent seen the rest but so far this is a winner and hard one to beat... simply beautifull ... now i have seen the rest... still this one tops them all out...

Personaly i REALLY like this shot, only with the black and white, it makes the tooth lokk extreamy fake? Very Nice Photo though!! I'd love to see the origional!

I'm returing to comments after voting for 100% of photos. This is certainly the BEST and there is no doubt that this will win the ribbon. Even if there was no gold on tooth, the smile itself is golden enough :) There is nothing fake about it and dash-of-gold just enhances the overall beauty of the photo. Good-Luck.10.
