1 egg, a small maglite flashlight and 2 paper envelopes. Made a cone out of tin foil to limit the light coming out of the flashlight. Aimed it at one envelope and moved the envelope around till I got the right angle of light on the egg. Used the other envelope to block the rest of the extraneous light. 8 second exposure.

Levels, curves, brightness contrast till I got the right mix of light and dark. Gaussian blur to smooth out the egg surface.

----

Wow, hammered pretty bad. Took a chance on the blur and apparently did not make a good choice there. Comments about balance of negative space were correct of course. Due to my lame setup for this shot I couldn't crop it any differently to fix the composition. Oh well.

To the few that liked it - glad you did! :)

As promised in the black and white scores thread, you e-mailed me wanting a comment after the challenge. I am afraid I did not score this one very well. I did not get the point of the blur, and couldn't figure out why such a blurry image was entered. It did depict black and white very well. The lighting seemed to create a nice composition, but I did not get the image at all. Sorry for the lack of creative sense on my part.

I like this a lot. My wife would probably sat that it is because it is vaguely breast-like but i like the mystery. {That's my story and I's sticking to it.) :) 7.

simple but outstanding glow control

Not sure what I'm looking at!

This doesn't hold my interest. Sure I can't tell what it is, but I wouldn't call it an enigma. Might just be a heavily shadowed egg that is out of focus.

I'm going to assume you intended to enter something so out of focus there's nothing to, well, focus my eyes on. So it was supposed to be abstract. As opposed to taking a blurry picture and entering it just for kicks.

Under that assumption, it's not striking me as a very interesting composition. And the left edge of the white thing is pretty centered, so there's not much negative space to contrast with the white area.

But I'll give you a 5 for the effort and idea.

The light is very harsh. Almost makes the egg (I hope that's what it is) look blurred. If you look closely, you can see that the egg is very sharp, but the reflection of the light makes a haze around it.

Very very blurry. It's blurry enough that it looks purposely blurred, but it just doesn't suit me.

Cool abstract, but it's really not working for me. Just too much blur.

My guess is its an egg. I love the shadow play on the back. IMO if the image was not blurred it would be more dramatic.

Think it might be too out of focus.
