it's quite unsharp. try to decrease the aperture to have more DOF.
07/27/2002 07:54:00 PM
To me, this challenge is not one that lends itself to less than max dof. 4 sjgleah

Most of this looks out of focus to me - I don't think "soft focus" works in a texture challenge
07/27/2002 05:46:00 AM
I like the coloring and texture. It sure meets the challenge, but the focus isn't sharp enough. Also the round limb stump in the upper right is positioned nicely off center but I'd prefer tosee the whole thing instead of having it cut off, since it seems to be the focal point.

Focus seems soft, I even downloaded and blew it up, still soft. At first, I thought this might be the wood, sorry, no. Good example of texture. 6 Swash

Looks a little out of focus, and I would have went for some kind of oblique for depth. 5 nards656

Im sure you know the focus is a bit soft, just thought i would say something,... i might have tried it from another angle to make it jump out a bit more.
07/25/2002 02:37:00 PM
Personally I don't think this is very good - needs more focus. Just doesn't grab my attention - sorry.

I think if you had made the knot the focal point of the picture, and had it not running out of the frame, it would have been better.
07/25/2002 12:40:00 AM
I can tell that it's out of focus, or the camera moved. You have plenty of texture, but this seems like a plain, boring picture of a log. It needs something special, I don't know what, but it definantly needs something.
I give it a 3

Not nearly sharp enough.
07/24/2002 12:12:00 PM
I do not see anything in this photo that is in focus. Without something in focus to draw the eye, there does not seem to be a clear subject.
07/24/2002 09:05:00 AM
focus is too soft for me. a tripod, or making sure your cameras macro function is on, or a faster shutter speed and samller aperture (you dont need much depth of field here) would all improve the sharpness. however, i do like the composition and would have liked to see a bit more of the knot. ~mcmurma

nice, but blurry, too blurry.
07/24/2002 05:23:00 AM
sharper focus needed. sometimes in resizing image I've lost focus.
07/23/2002 10:59:00 PM
Woooo ΓΆ€“ great photo potential ΓΆ€“ just very blurred. A faster shudder speed will help or a tripod.

I'll try to make this comment a little more useful than the average "lack of focus"... I looked at the size of your file and saw that you're way below the allowed 150KB. to get better definition out of a shot, try to compress it less, when you save the resized image - if you don't know how, drop me a line or post to the forums. this will not save a shot that is out of focus but if you start out with a crisp image, this helps to keep it that way. 3 beegee

I love the texture of old wood... until I get a splinter!
07/23/2002 01:37:00 PM
Out of focus. Composition is good.
07/23/2002 10:49:00 AM
Lacks focus.
07/23/2002 08:51:00 AM
Nice idea however the shot is out of focus.
07/23/2002 07:16:00 AM
good composition, lacks clarity where it's needed

You need a tripod, so you can get a longer eposure/smaller aperture for better sharpness and get rid of the hand shake

this seems to be too out of focus

looks out of focus to me...
07/22/2002 08:27:00 PM
Needs focusing
07/22/2002 06:33:00 PM
Needs better focus
07/22/2002 01:30:00 PM
Would have been interesting, however, the lack of focus really detracts from this image. *4* -balynch
07/22/2002 11:56:00 AM
could be more in focus
07/22/2002 08:55:00 AM
wood like that is perfect for this challenge. i also like that you found a piece of wood with an eye in it. i probably would've placed the eye fully into the photo (while still following the ROT as you did). what really hurts your shot is that it's out of focus, and to be able to view the texture, focus is really important. -- gr8photos (2)
07/22/2002 08:33:00 AM
I like the knot as a central element, but I think that the overall focus is a bit too blury for this kind of shot.
07/22/2002 08:01:00 AM
It's kind of blurry. I think it could have been better if you had pulled back a little and perhaps not have gotten so close to the subject.
07/22/2002 07:17:00 AM
A piece of wood... and very nearly in focus!
07/22/2002 06:23:00 AM
great idea, but blurry
07/22/2002 05:49:00 AM
I'm a big fan of 'soft focus' and I understand it is sometimes used on purpose and folks don't get it... But this shot loses alot from the soft focus. For the texture to leap out, you 'need' the sharpest focus you could get. Of course, that's just me :) Great idea/
07/22/2002 05:37:00 AM
The focus missed its mark.
07/22/2002 05:36:00 AM
Looks really soft. In this challenge, that is a problem.
07/22/2002 04:51:00 AM
Seems to be a bit out of foucs. Nice grain though.
07/22/2002 04:15:00 AM
Out of focus or blurred. Decent framing, but I think the top right is cut too much.
07/22/2002 02:21:00 AM
