I think maybe the thumbnail doesn't bring as much light into the phot, maybe try darkening the image or do some dodging and burning of the shadows to put it even more over the top.

This is a cool shot but you are definately right about the thumbnail thing... I can't quite put my finger on why. Maybe the brick on the floor and the stairs adds a little too much information?
