It is mind boggling that this pic is not at least in the top 50... Stunning 'scape! |

154th place!?!?! totally and utterly DISAGREE. No expert here, sorry, no advice on cropping, saturation, opening the f-stop etc... I saw it, I clicked on it, and it wowed me. Had I voted... 8. |

The smoke surely represents trouble somewhere, but boy, does it ever make the sky beautiful with brilliant color. |

Brad, thanks for your comment on my Beach entry, I thought I would return the favor. And first welcome to DPC!, this is a great first entry. I think as someone already commented I would have framed the sun alittle off to the side, maybe to the right side so you could have gotten alittle more beach in your shot. Also the max file size for a submission is 150 kb and your is 93 kb. This means that some edges would have been smoother, like the horizon and bit less jaggedy lke in the leaves. Here is a link to the tutorial on this site for preparinf submissions using photoshop, I am not sure what you used but I often see that photos with a low file size get scored lower for no other reason than its alittle jagged and not on the quality of the photo. Also I am not sure what you used to edit your photo but I would suggest playing with selective color and some curves, here is link to what I did just with those two adjustment layers. If you have any questions send me a PM, and once again welcome to DPC.

welcome to the peers answers, (voters corner) top 50% for your first entry, good work, not a lot that could be done in basic, a better crop to put the sun reflection into the POF lower left side 1/3 would have strengthened the image, rather than the center. good luck. |

Great job! Nice colors, and a very pretty photo. However, a water shot, or even a shoreline shot, does not always mean 'beach' in my opinion. And meeting the challenge, to me, is the first and most important thing, if that isn't done, then anything else is unimportant. Doesn't mean it's not a beautiful and creative shot, because in this case, it absolutely is! I do love it! I went back and forth on how to score your pic, but I do vote low for those that I don't think meet the challenge, so to be consistant, I am voting this lower than I want for the reasons stated above. |

0-3 technical merit = 3
0-3 creativity = 1

Looks great. That water is perfectly still and well captured. My only negative is I wish the sky was as colorful and as contrasty as the water reflecting it. |

Perhaps its just me, but it seems like there is a possibility that the horizon is a tad tilted.
I have since reviewed the image and now realize I was mistaken. Well done.
