Yes, That's right out of the camera, no croping, no edit. I'm new at this so I keep it simple. I called it a grasshopper. I notice since I have started taking pictures. There are alot of different grasshoppers and dragonflies.

Is it really this color, and what is it?

Colors are way off; too blue. You can see the effects of too much jpeg compression. The composition is okay, but would be better if it wasn't "looming over" the subject.

The overall picture is a little fuzzy and the colors and contrasts could be brought out a bit. I think a little less cropping would also help.

The plant seems tack sharp, the insect a bit less so

Very nice color combinations. Good composition. You might want to sharpen in photoshop it looks a little out of focus. Good job.

what a neat bug and a great color repetition between bug head and stalk...more focus would have helped...if you had moved back a bit and gotten the whole bug would you have lost that or lost the emphasis on the eys?

A bit grainy, but interesting.

He's an interesting little fellow isn't he. I like the composition of this picture, especially the angle at which you have the insect. The insect is also middled in the picture, which obviously makes him the main focus of the image. Your title also draws attention to the eyes of the bug, and it is nice to see that his eyes are quite close to a third to help draw your eyes towards the head of the insect.

On a technical note I would say that you have either had to zoom in a lot to get this image, or that he is a tiny little bit out of focus. It is either that or on this image you are going very slightly soft focus, which if that is a case then I apologise for my previous observation as it works very well in this image. Either way you have a great image.
