 There aren't many exciting bugs in Kansas, so I shot the one that's everywhere. I took it handheld, this was a very cooperative grasshopper!
First I used Neatimage to clean it up. Gotta love that program! Then I cropped it, adjusted color and contrast levels, resized, used the unsharp mask and finally, added a border.
I don't have macro, so I am really happy with this shot. I played around with the settings on my camera and I can't believe the difference! I know the background is busy, but I couldn't do much about it. I tried desaturating different colors and they all affected either the grasshopper or the brach he's on.
If this one doesn't score at least a five, I'll know you all are out to destroy my self esteem and throw in the towel! Just kidding.

Perhaps a little too much cropping on the bottom end. The background is distracting, but the detail is good.

"I 'm not common at all...quite unique" The leg patterns are wonderful - perhaps the shot could have pulled more of that in?
