For anyone interested this is a photo of a selenite crystal cluster from the Great Salt Plains in northern OK. There isn't any paper added nor sand, just the crystal itself. |

the paper in the center doesn't add to the pic |

I don't know what it is but I like it. I know I wouldn't want to fall over and land with my hands in a pile of it. scratch, cut, scraped ouch! |

These crystals have a nice texture to them. I think that lighting them from behind would have provided a neat effect. Technically, the focus is sharp and the exposure is correct. The glare from the crystal in the center of the frame is a bit distracting, but it does not ruin the photograph by any means. Nice job. *6* -balynch |

nice texture. i'm not sure if the sandy texture on top of the crystal (or whatever it is) texture is necessary, but that's up to you. the only thing I would ask for is a little variation in color. othere than that, it's all good. |

Composition8 Originality9 Technical Aspects8 Meets Challenge9 Total Score9
For those that are just learning, like me.
Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.
Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.
Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.
Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.
There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.
Good luck!

Nature's handicraft? Those delicate shades of brown are really appealing. I think it could have been lit differently to acheive a more pleasant overall effect, but generally I think it's a pretty cool photo. |

I like the monochromatic color scheme, with the silver in the center. Smooth and grainy- good texture contrast. |

Very nice textures in this photo, and good contrast in the dark shadows and then the very bright light in the middle. |
