I feel so lame! I actually thought of this idea BEFORE I looked at the previous "superstitions" challenge and saw that about half the photos were of spilled salt. Oh well, I was running out of time and realy wanted to submit a photo. Hopefully, if not an original idea, at least I executed it okay.

The salt is spilled (I actually spilled it, albeit on purpose) on a black granite countertop. There are some small crystals in the granite brought out by the flash, and this makes the picture look a little noisy (though t isn't "noise).

I like the contrast of the salt and surface. And not to forget the title
IMO I think you should try with the pic again with a slightly different angle to make the subject even more interesting..:)

some of the salt is a bit overexposed maybe not using the flash would have improved it.

A better effort than some of the similar ones in the contest. I think the grains are a little over-sharpened, but I do like it. I like the glint on the silver top.

The salt cyrstals look good against the blac, and the 'star' highlight is a nice touch, but the top gets a little lost against the black bakcground.

I'm not sure if the light coming off of the cap is benificial or distracting. its a little of both oddly. i like the composition though. it looks a bit cloudy overall. mayeb needs more contrast.

Excellent contrast of the salt against the black surface. :) However, I think the metal top to the salt container is a little distracting - being that it's a little hard to make out due to reflecting the black but the eye is still drawn to the specular highlight reflecting off of it. If I had to come up with any suggestions for this very well done shot, it would have been to zoom in much closer to the mouth of the salt shaker so we can see the salt grains in greater detail.

I know it is in reference to throwing salt over your shoulder to do something (can't remember what) but I think a lot of folks might not get it.

If I spill salt, I pick up a pinch with my right hand and throw it over my left shoulder. HEE HEE

I love the title, but doesn't sell the superstion to me. Well, it's an overly done classic spilt salt image. Only the title has the orginality for me.
