Please see my comments on this: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.asp?IMAGE_ID=3775 shot for how I feel about this one, too. Everything I say there applies to this as well. Excellent work, as usual, Arni. |

Good idea, but too much of the area is out of focus. |

i like the back and white, it is a strong composition. the shallow depth of field works for me, but i'm sure others have commented unfavorably. if everything was in sharp focus the image would lack depth, imo. i do wish the links had more visible "grit", and thus showed a little more texture. ~mcmruma Aesthetics...8 Meets Challenge...6 Overall...7 |

Pure texture... also creates a good emotional atmosphere... B/W is perfect for this subject considering the theme. |

I love this photo, I give it a 10. Only thing is the title-this photo warrants something a little more for a title. This photo is intriguing. Great job!! Ruthann |

This photo is a very good idea. I think this photo had quite a great potential as well. I think the depth of field in this one could use a little bit of work to improve the overall image. There is a very small plane of focus in this image and it seems that the majority of the subject area here is out of focus. If you go to the LEARN link here on DPC and choose TUTORIALS, there is a GREAT photography tutorial there called "Classical Photo Course" that contains some great information on depth of field and how you can control it... It also shows some great examples of where different levels of depth of field work well.... good luck :) = 7 - jmsetzler |

love the limited depth of field and use of black and white..found myself wanting jsut a bit more detail on the chain surface to give it a 10..but a very solid 9 for sure...hokie |

uh, this would've been one of my tops if there would've been more focus in this one. i understand that you may have chosen the shallow DOF, but i feel there's too much OOF in here fighting for my attention. sorry. the composition of the chain links is great. is there a chance for you to go back and reshoot? or do you have other versions with larger DOF? -- gr8photos (5) |

Composition4 Originality6 Technical Aspects4 Meets Challenge5 Total Score5
For those that are just learning, like me.
Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.
Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.
Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.
Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.
There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.
Good luck!

8. smaller apperture, more depth of field! |

I love your composition and your B/W conversion. This photo would be amoung my favorites if it had the very large depth of field it requires. With our digital cameras, this probably wouldn't be possible. (If I were doing it I'd use a 4 x 5 view camera with the tilts and swings and probably stop down to f 45 or so.) Eventually, we get to the point where we can't express our ideas with our equipment and have to look for another angle. |

it would have been better with an all around tighter focus. but i know hard it can be to achieve that perfect focus. this could have been an excellent shot, but the focus issue only makes it mediocre |

I think the shallow DOF works well for this shot, but the texture isn't a very strong component here to me. 5 beegee |

The composition and contrast makes this a really potentially interesting shot. But the depth of field just distracts. |

More out of focus than not. Try a smaller aperture, unless this is the outcome you where looking for. Nice concept - 6 |

nice photo. the title sounds like some sort kinky store. maybe I shouldn't have said that... anyways, nice contrast between the chains and the background. a larger depth of field might have been nice, but you probably did that on purpose. |

I like the idea but there is too much DOF and not enough in focus. This would be a great texture photo if all or most was in focus. |

This pic isn't very sharp and not enough contrast. Sorry |
