Shot this on Friday of Grant 'Chopper' Fielder during a promo of the new animal store in the Manchester Arndale Centre, I shot this with the hopes of getting some motion involved in ht e background using a small ammount of fill-in-flash for the face of the rider but wanted to keep the bike almost frozen yet movement in the wheels of the bike. I am convinced I achieved what I set out to accomplish which makes me happy anyhow, I just hope it goes down well with the voters :0)

Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: This is where a great idea lost some of its potential points. Your motion blur is terrific, but your focus is off on the rider. Your depth of field complements the blur very nicely, but it may have been one of the main reasons that you lost the crisp focus that this one needed.

Lighting: Your lighting is very nice. The bright background really helps isolate the rider in his dark clothing. You also did a terrific job with the exposure. No important detail was lost to highlights or shadows.

Composition/Content: Great choice of subject for this particular challenge.

My Opinion: As is, this one scored a little higher than I would have expected. You did a great job meeting the challenge, and with the rider in crisp focus, I'd expect to see this one well into the 6 range.

Nice shot! I like the background blur from the upwards panning angle. It would have been great to get the bike and ride more crisp. I know, though, that there are some limitations in place from the indoor lighting.

Overall I really like this shot. I would have given an extra point for a sharper subject.

well timed for what is a difficult shot to get. the only thing i would probably play with is the crop; the bottom third is a bit redundant and a squarer crop closer to the bike guy might emphasise him a bit more. i like the effect of the blur at the top though - looks like flourescent tubes exploding! good achievement though, and nicely dramatic. 8.
