Hey there from the Critique Club

Camera Work/Technical: I agree with the General. I would have changed the focus around on this one and used a deeper depth of field. While I can see what's moving, the fret bars are very distracting and compete very heavily with the motion of the subject.

Lighting: Your lighting is very nice and very even. There were no details lost with in the highlights or shadows.

Composition/Content: I also like your angle for this shot. It serves very well to pull the viewer's eye up and into the frame, but the frets take over and pull it away from the subject of the challenge.

My Opinion: I think that this one scored pretty close to its potential as it is. Giving this one a deeper depth of field and a longer exposure would have surely pulled this one out of the sub-5 category.

It took me way too long to figure out what was going on in this photo. My eye wants to focus on the white strip in the center, especially since it lookslike it has something dripping off the end.

Is this a motion blur of a guitar string? I would have titled it differently. ;-)

Nice tight crop. I think I would have cleaned the guitar first, though. Looks a bit crusty.

I think this is a great idea, but this shot doesn't quite carry it off. The string just looks blurred, rather than in motion.

Maybe what is needed is a slow exposure under a strobe light, to capture the vibrating string more clearly (though still a little blurred, I'm thinking) at a number of different points in its oscillation.

Nice ideaa! If, instead of using the shallow DOF, you picked one of the harmonic node points on the string, you could have everything in sharp focus except the string to either side of the node -- it would look like your middle string but with all the frets in focus. I think that would be an even better demo of the physics of music.

What's moving, then?

You seem to have the focus on the last string. I think I would prefer it to be on the second.

I tried letting a string ring on the last motion challenge and didn't get very good scoring. I like your take on this. Good angle and lighting. Giving you a good score. Good luck.

Great idea, I dont usually think of them as "moving" ..but of course they do! well done
