hello again,
i think you probably got dinged cause it is softish. not like oof. just like softish.
the concept is good. i did read somewhere, though, (unsure ifn it is true) that when including more than one try to use odd numbers. not really sure that is important or when or why or anything about it. just something is supposed to be more pleasing with odd numbers for some reason. unsure that helps. |

I suspect that you may have been graded down by some for the infamous DNMC comment, but I disagree with that assessment - if in fact that was the reason for the 1 - 3 scores. To me, this photo is a very creative and artistic expression of "desolation" - desolation of the soul. I like the technical aspects of the image and the lighting. I also like the positions of the actors in relation to each other. While I suspect you just captured what was offered on set, I don't think you could do much better if you staged the shot yourself. I was not able to vote in this challenge because of my trip, but I would have given it a 7 or possibly an 8. I think it is well done...as do those who took the time to comment. |

Trading Post - Interesting shot. Maybe not totally fitting in to the challenge description at first glance but it does leave a slight unsettling feeling to it after a bit. I think some burning to have it so the bodies really disappear into the blackness would have been nice - not being able to see the pants and lower waves of some of the shirts. Maybe, dare i say, a little bit of film grain to add to the artsy feel to it. Not a bad shot in a very tough challenge. |

Trading post...
Very nice submission. I like it more now than I did when voting. Technically it is very good, lighting and whatnot. And I guess it would be very disconcerting to be faceless. It just reminded me more of depression (which I guess is a form of desolation). I know I'm rambling. Sorry :) Good job! |

Trading Post comment:
I like this picture quite a bit. The masks are very well lit for my taste, and you can see just enough of the heads and eyes to know they're real people, yet the bodies blend into the darkness, which is intriguing. Position of the masks/faces in the frame is very well balanced. I love the shadow of the eyelashes on the mask to the far left. The more I look at this, the better I like it. It's one that probably wasn't well served by the 2 second vote, and probably suffered from the "this isn't desolation to me" vote. It really is a pretty darn good picture! |
