| Takes the ordinary and meets the challenge. Good points. Would like to see the entire hand in view and more dof. But I like it. |

| I'd have shot this against an all-dark background so as to not "lose" the thumb on the left. |

| this is a good idea, and while i'm torn whether i like the out of focus fingers or not, i'm starting to like them. what i find distracting in this shot is the background. specifically the white area above the thumb and the black area between the ring and small finger. if you could have taken this in front of a plain background (even just holding some cardboard behind the hand) you would've gotten a few more points from me. creative idea though. -- gr8photos (5) |

| Only my opinions, but the cut off thumb is a little distaracting as is the bright space immediately behind the thumb. |

| I liked this the minute I saw the thumbnail. Your focus could of been better this is just not sharp. Still like I said I find it attractive and interesting. KEE |

| Interesting use of DOF though I'm not sure if you want the centre of focus to be the palm or the fingers. If it's the fingers then they should have been in focus |

For those that are just learning, like me.
Composition: Scoring in this area is based on basic composition of a picture and includes the rule of thirds, balance, cropping, and curved and diagonal lines. Subject matter that does not lend itself to the picture or otherwise unwanted is also considered here.
Originality: Scoring in this area is based on pictures or concepts that I have seen, as well as how much effort you have invested in the picture. Usually a little something that sets it aside from a snapshot. Does it make me want to come back for another look? You know things like that.
Technical Aspects: Focus, exposure, lighting, and other special effects (done by the camera), and post processing are all considered in this category.
Meets Challenge: This is based on my interpretation of if you, have/have not, met the challenge. This is fairly simple but quite important for this site.
There are many sites that can give you assistance in achieving better skills in photography, but I think the best way to learn is to take pictures and show them to other people. Believe me when it is a good one you will know it.

| soft depth of field really gives this piece some prescence, the contrast on the foreground to the background is interesting also. |

i really like this. the white light/thingy on the left of the thumb is distracting, as is the black spot, but overall the composition is strong. good texture. ~mcmurma
