Olivia flying a kite...

Here is the original unedited version:

As you can see, I did a LOT of editing to achieve this result. But, it turned out like I wanted. The shot of her was just so good (the movement, her hair, the lines, etc.) that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use it somehow, but the rest of the shot would obviously have to go.

PP included:
Cutting out Mom & the background (carefully tracing around her head and arm). Then cloning pavement back into the vacant area. Then I used the blending brush to "fade" the pavement into white. Converted to B/W, lots of contrast, lighting/exposure adjustments, levels/curves, dodging/burning, added small border, and voila! ;-)

This is a fantastic shot .. I love how you have processed away the distractions .. and really appreciate the capture of the shadow and the child ... I felt on first look it was blown (overexposed) but again .. your processing has dragged me into the picture .. and makes me want to know all the steps and whys and wherefors ... so well done.

LOVE this shot! I love the what you did with the background, and the way the girls's attention and the string both lead out of frame, and the indication of wind in the hair, and the fact that you managed to get all of the shadow. Very nice!!

This is a great example of how-to-properly-do-PP. Wonderful job - and a wonderful picture.

Oh wow! What a great capture of the moment! The only tiny thing I can say is that I wish her hair didn't quite dissapear into the background...

beautifully done black and white. i love when people dont over do the contrast in black and whites. would like it better if the hair wasnt obstructing her face but it adds life and movement as it is. its still nice. good work

edited for spelling

Lovely. I love her running with the one leg up. Her hair blowing really shows the wind (of course, for a kite-flying day), but I really glad we can still see her great smile, too. THe line of the string and her arms is very cool.

Cool image. I really like how the image is balanced so well. I think that one leg up in the air like that does it for me. One thing I might think about tweaking a bit is the string. I would probably just draw a thin line in there so that it doesn't look like it's cut into pieces.

Fantastic. Too bad you can't use it in the shadow challenge. IT is wonderful with the high key. That's one of my favorite types of post editing techniques. Good job, my friend.
