Had fun time assembling the fruit piece by piece to create a double "nature morte". Used an LCD projector to create sharp shadows and also an Alien Bee strobe for a little bit of filling light. Now I am looking forward to eating the props :)

In post-processing, desaturated the shadow, adjusted contrast, sharpened, and slight crop. A little bit of dodging and burning, cloned sensor dust from the white background.

I must not have commented on this when I saw it the first time in the challenge. I thought it was great, it was one of those images where I would show people when they came by my place. Really creative and well executed.

Greetings from the critique club

What a creative use of shadows! I "Got it" at first glance, wouldnt recommend trying to make it more obvious as commented by some others.

Congratulations on well executed photograph. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, I missed it as well, I feel like a real goose. No excuses, I must have been rushing, but seeing as it is a shadow challenge I really should have had a decent look at the shadow. Prehaps a tighter crop might have made it easier for idiots like me.

I missed the shadow when I voted-very very sorry. That is great and I would have given it a 9 easily had I seen the shadow. I'm sure I'm not the only one or else this would have scored much higher.

ahhh shit, I didnt vote for this challenge, but to be honest... it took me a second to get it too. (dunno why, as it is very obvious and pretty damn cool) Its too bad pple have to go thru the photos so fast when voting, but i also understand why. With DPC its normally gotta be pretty obvious, unless the challenge is something like "visual pun" was. GREAT PHOTO though! I think cropping the image down might have made it a little more clear perhaps. I also would have added a little more lighting directly onto the fruit (from the top, to get rid of the harsh shadows coming from your main lightsource)

Challenge: SHADOWS III
Description: Creatively capture a shadow

Advanced Edit
Nature Morte
Fit: Epitomises the idea behind the challenge 2
Took me a while but I finally got it! RIPâ€Â¦
Aesthetics: Well composed, aesthetically pleasing 2
Aside from the use of the fruit and vegetables to make the shadow of the mask of death, this could be a really good still life and the curve of the shadow is superbly handled.
Technical: Evidence of technical mastery/wizardry 3
I really cannot find fault with this
Wow: Real impact 2
Because it took me a while to see the face I had to mark it down a little :-)
Total Score = 9

Quite clever! If I had anything to add for possible improvement, would be to have the background closer to white (levels or curves adj.). This is a fun image. Good luck in the challenge.

Shadow artist! Very nice. I would have explored working without the fruit such as olives and tomatoes, yet you have achieved a formidable study regardless of my comment. Bump.

HA!! Very creative. Maybe cropping out some of the white at the top would put more emphisis on the shadow!

Well shot, sir (or Madam). That is a classic photo a la those Dutch oils in which the artist put together a mosaic of vegetables (and other objects) to make a portrait.

Does that shadow make a face? It's a great arrangement, and the fruits and veggies make a pleasing still life on their own.
